Amsterdam Ports

(Amsterdam Ports – The ports of Amsterdam, Zaanstad, Beverwijk and Velsen/IJmuiden)
Throughput 2009: 86,7 million tons

Overview Amsterdam ports (Source: Logistiek.nl)

The Amsterdam Ports is an international logistic center serving most of North West Europe. Its favorable location close to the sea and excellent connections to the hinterland via water, road and rail, and the proximity to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol make the port an ideal location for (inter)national cargo flows. Annually, some 87 million tons of goods are shipped through the port and it currently ranks fourth on the list of European ports in the Hamburg-Le Havre range. As it has for decades, Amsterdam ranks first in the world in cocoa and gasoline transshipment.

The port complex is seeking to maintain its role as a modern port through a permanent program of extensive investments whereby the environmental factor plays an important role. Amsterdam Port Authority is striving for sustainable development in the port. The port will achieve further development as a prosperous port and industrial area by creating a fine balance between economy and ecology.
