Slight increase in throughput in Port of Rotterdam

Cargo throughput in the Port of Rotterdam increased by 0.8% in 2011 to 433 million tonnes; 3 million tonnes more than the previous record year, 2010. Supply grew by 0.8% to 308 million tonnes and distribution by 0.7% to 126 million tonnes. There was a decrease in throughput of iron ore and scrap (-6%), crude oil (-8%) and mineral oil products (-6%). More agribulk (+18%), coal (+12%), other dry bulk (+7%), other liquid bulk (+2%), containers (+10%), roll-on/roll-off (+4%) and other general cargo (+13%) were handled.

With almost 50 million passengers Schiphol regains ranking as Europe's fourth-largest passenger airport

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol served 49.8 million passengers in 2011, reflecting a 10.2% increase on the previous year when the airport welcomed 45.2 million passengers. Cargo transport remained virtually unchanged, recording 1.5 million tonnes of cargo. The number of air transport movements rose by 8.8% from 386,319 to 420,245.

DB Schenker Logistics executes European Supply Chain for Maxell Europe

Maxell Europe Ltd and DB Schenker Logistics have signed a three year contract to execute the complete European warehousing and distribution. The contract includes a European Distribution Center located in the Netherlands and the management of two national Distribution Centers in Nuneaton (United Kingdom) and Budapest (Hungary). The inbound goods flow to the warehouses and the European distribution from the warehouses are managed and operated by DB Schenker in the Netherlands.
